What are the types of solar panels?
Release time:2024-07-15      Number of clicks:152

There are three different types of solar panels, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.

Monocrystalline silicon solar panels are the earliest solar panels, but also the most developed, there is a more mature process. These monocrystalline silicon solar panels are made from about 40 monocrystalline silicon. These solar cells are made of pure silicon. In the manufacturing process, silicon crystals are placed in a VAT of molten silicon. The crystal is then pulled very slowly out of the VAT, allowing the melted silicon to form a solid crystal shell around it, called a silicon ingot. The ingots are then cut into thin silicon wafers. Silicon wafers are made into batteries, which are then assembled together to form a solar panel. The surface of the single crystal solar panel is blue, the four corner guide angles are missing, and the conversion efficiency is usually about 18-24%.

Polysilicon solar panels have only been developed in the last few years, but they are rapidly rising in popularity and efficiency. Just like monocrystalline silicon solar panels, polycrystalline silicon cells are made of silicon. But polycrystalline cells are made from pieces of silicon crystals that melt together. In the manufacturing process, silicon crystals are placed in a VAT of molten silicon. Instead of slowly pulling out, the crystal is allowed to crumble and then cooled. Then, once the new crystal has cooled in its mold, the cracked silicon is thinly cut into polycrystalline solar silicon wafers. These silicon wafers are assembled together to form a polysilicon plate. Polycrystalline silicon solar panels are also blue, but it will show colorful colors under certain light exposure, and the conversion efficiency is about 14-18%.

Thin film solar panels are a very recent development in the solar panel industry. The salient feature of thin film panels is that they are not always made of silicon. They can be made from a variety of materials, including cadmium telluride (CdTe), amorphous silicon (A-Si), and copper indium gallium selenium (CIGS). Their characteristics compared to crystalline silicon solar panels, his flexible strength is very large, but its conversion efficiency is only 7-14%, the appearance is also very easy to distinguish.
